Sony's latest midrange smartphone

Sony released a fleet of products at IFA 2017 and the Sony Xperia XA1 is one such product. Here we take a look at the mid range offering.

Design of the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus

The device has Sony’s signature design. It offers a metal build with rounded corners and a flat top and bottom. The bezels on the side of the phone are pretty thin but the ones on the top and bottom are quite thick. The current market trend is eliminating these borders, so the design looks a bit dated. The benefit of the bezels is that they house a front facing dual speaker set up.

Display and specs of the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus

The smartphone has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a Full HD resolution. As was the case with the other two, this display also hits 100% of the sRGB colour gamut. Furthermore, the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus has a Mediatek Helio P20 processor. On the side of RAM, it boasts 3GB and 32GB of storage. The storage can, of course be expanded via Micro SD to a maximum of 256GB. For protection, it is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance. The phone will also have a fingerprint scanner.

Camera and battery of the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus

The Sony device has a 23MP rear camera that has a f/2.0 aperture. In the front of the device is an 8MP camera. The XA1 Plus packs in a 3,430 mAh battery to get you through your tasks. It has Qnovo Adaptive Charging and the Pump Express 2.0 fast charging technology on-board. This means you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble getting that large battery back to a full charge either.

On the software side of things, the Xperia XA1 Plus is running Android 7.1.2 Nougat, with Sony’s minimalistic UI on top. You do get Sony’s own set of apps on-board that help further enhance the experience.
