Instagram stories was launched almost fifteen months ago. It has quickly become one of the most important features on the social media app. The new feature was essentially copied off Snapchat but has continued to outperform Snapchat in many ways.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg recently announced the number of daily users on the app. He did this during a call on the company’s earnings. He said that the rival to Snapchat has three hundred daily active users. The stories feature was also brought on to Facebook’s texting app, WhatsApp. Named “Status”, it too has three hundred million daily users. After some research by TechCrunch, it was noted that this figure is almost double the users of Snapchat.

When Instagram announced their user count back in the middle of June, it was about two hundred and fifty million daily users. This means the app has gotten over fifty million users in roughly five months which is quite a noteworthy feat. WhatsApp, on the other hand, reached two hundred and fifty million users in the month of July. Instagram has a total of five hundred million daily users and if they can turn those users into using Instagram Stories, they can further increase the user base.

Meanwhile, the rival to both of those apps, Snapchat, has one hundred and seventy three million daily users. When compared, one can see this is almost half the number of Instagram. This is something to think about, especially when you realize Instagram began the Stories feature quite late and basically copied it off Snapchat.

The rise of users can be attributed to a slew of updates to the Facebook products. Features like augmented reality face filters have helped put it in a pole position, ahead of Snapchat. New features include Superzoom. This allows you to add dramatic zoom-ins to your videos. The app makers are also testing a Stop Motion feature.
