Android O is Google’s latest version for its mobile OS. We have news that the version will be shown off on August 21st at 2:40 PM ET via a live streamed event from New York City. There is still no information on if there will only be an announcement on the 21st or if there will be a release of the OS. Along with the countdown for the upcoming event, Google’s page also has links to the NASA live stream, giving us a good way to spend some time before the event itself kicks off.

What is the name of Android O

Recently a video was leaked on Google+ by Google itself. It has been deleted now but hawk eyes users have taken a screenshot of it. The video has a filename “GoogleOreo_Teaser_0817_noDroids (1).mp4”. Judging by this, it seems like it might be called Android Oreo. Of course this should be taken with a grain of salt. Google is known to troll users. Last year, they said it was going to be named Android Nutella. The final turned out to be Nougat.

What phones will Android O release for

The Google Pixel will be the first devices to get Android O. Other smartphone manufacturers will gradually roll it out for their respective devices over the upcoming months. Until then, you can join the open beta. Keep in mind that you’ll need to have a Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X or Pixel C to get started.

New features on Android O

Picture in picture mode is one new feature. This allows you to have one supported app remain lay on top of another separate app. Faster boot times have also been promised. In Android O, it will be possible for people to do more for the notifications right within the notification panels. Android O will also offer native support for LDAC which means listening to audio via Bluetooth is going to be a better experience.
