Android Instant Apps

Is it necessary to download an app to use it?

There are many apps on our device we do not use much. Wouldn’t it be better if we could use the app only when we need instead of downloading it and allowing it to take space on our device? Google plans to answer this question by using Android Instant Apps.

What are Android Instant Apps?

It allows you to use an app without having to completely download it. You have to just look for the app on the Play Store and press ‘Open App’. This way you can go direct to a specific activity inside the app that you haven’t installed. It does by accessing a URL. This feature is available for a handful of users and is rolling out for the rest of the users gradually.

Using Android Instant Apps

To use Android Instant Apps, you simply need to turn the option on in your settings menu – as long as you have a Nexus or Pixel device. Head to Personal > Google and then Services. Now just toggle Instant Apps on and then tap ‘Yes, I’m In’ when the notice comes up. You can try it out with some of the early adopters like BuzzFeed or Wish. If you don’t have one of those devices, then you may still be able to find it in your settings, but the apps won’t be available yet for you to try. Don’t worry though, they’re coming!

Android Instant Apps can also be launched from a URL. This is similarly handy because it essentially extends the web browsing experience to add more power and native functionality – not to mention allowing us to share experiences from within apps.

This is a very helpful feature for those who do not have much space on their devices or have a lot of apps they only use every now and then.
