Amazon has been refining its delivery process and procedure for the last few years. It has culminated in the invention of Amazon Key. It works in tandem with Amazon’s Cloud Cam and a smart lock which has to compatible with the system. The camera will be the main control system and will use Wi-Fi to connect to the internet. The camera will communicate with the smart lock over Zigbee. This is a wireless protocol made use of by smart devices.
How does Amazon Key work?
When a delivery person reaches your house with a package, they will scan the barcode. This will then send a request to the company’s servers. If things are in order, the server will give permission via a return message. The camera starts recording from this point onwards. The courier gets a notification on the app and when they click that notification, your door opens. The courier then leaves the order inside the house, lock the house and leaves. You get a notification saying your order has been delivered and a video stream of the delivery.
This framework from Amazon works with both Yale and Kwikset. The camera though is made by Amazon. It will also work as a normal security camera. It can respond to voice commands and integrates with other Alexa devices.
Pricing of Amazon Key
The entire system costs $249.99. It comes with the smart lock, the camera and the installation of the system. After you have installed it, in home delivery is an option in all purchases you make on the online retail site. It does not cost an additional amount and will initially work for ten million products. For now, this new system works only in thirty seven cities around the US. Amazon Key can be used to give access to people to enter the house too.
