A guide to Chromebooks

Explaining Google’s OS

0

Chromebooks have rapidly grown over the year. There used to be a time where they were relatively unknown but now they have even surpassed Macs in terms of sales. Even with its popularity, many people do not know what a Chromebook is. Let’s answer that question!

What are Chromebooks?

They are lightweight laptops aimed at those who spend most of their time online. The OS they run is called Chrome OS. It is basically the Google Chrome browser. All the data and files are saved in the cloud. Google gives up to 100GB of cloud storage to every user. They are fast and secure and support multiple users. Many of these laptops have an 11.6-inch screen, but 13, 14 and even 15.6-inch versions are also available.

Advantages of Chromebooks

Chromebooks have some key features that convince people to leave Windows and Mac for this new OS. One of them is the price tag attached to these. Most cost way less than the usual laptop. You can get a Chromebook for as low as $200. They are also extremely quick and usually lag free. This is due to two reasons. One is the SSD drives they use and the other is the lightweight OS they run. Chromebooks also have exceptional battery life. On average you can get more than 6 hours but some are known to last up to 13 hours.

Disadvantages of Chromebooks

These laptops do not support many standalone applications from their Windows and Mac counterparts. Software such as Adobe Photoshop and the Office Suite do not work on Chromebooks. These laptops also come with low storage of around 32GB. Of course, you get 100GB of online storage for free with new Chromebooks but the internal storage is paltry. Due to the lack of apps and software, things like image and video editing are quite difficult on Chromebooks.
