What is the Nest Secure?

0

Over the few months, there have been indicators that Nest is starting to get into the world of home security. Those suspicions have turned out to be right as the company has released a range of home security products which it refers to as Nest Secure. The announcement was made at an event in the city of San Francisco. The company announced a modular focused framework that aims to make the security of your household simpler and easier to handle.

Components in the Nest Secure

The backbone of all this will be the Nest Guard. Design wise, it resembles a puck with a number pad on the topmost side of the device. It is to be kept indoors and facing your main entrance and it interacts with other devices. They are named Nest Detects and can be kept at any point in your house. If someone comes in and does not switch off the framework, then the loud siren like alarm goes off in the house. You will be informed of every occurrence with notifications on your device. These are just a few of the gadgets that come in the Nest Secure family. As mentioned, the Nest Guard is the backbone which means disabling and arming the system happens through it.

The Guard also sits at the main entrance to detect if anyone enters or leaves. The Nest Detects do this for the back doors and windows. They run off batteries and do not connect to Wi-Fi but interact with the Nest Guard using the Weave technology. The Detects which comes in 2 pieces, detect the strength of the magnetic field between them. When this field is disturbed by an opening an alarm blares off.

If you want more security, the company is offering an alarm response system via Moni. Thanks to this you can link your home security system with the police. There is no information on the pricing of that as of yet.

Pricing of the Nest Secure

The Nest Secure is being sold in a starter pack for $499. It has a Guard, 2 Detects as well as 2 Tags. Separate Nest Detects cost $59 while Tags go for $25.

A final product in the home security family is a signal booster. Named as the Nest Connect, it is designed for large houses that might have connectivity issues. Nest also announced a partnership with famed lock maker Yale. They are to join hands to make a smart lock, which will be called the Nest + Yale lock. It is said to work together with the Nest Secure System and provide more handy features.
