The need for surveillance is more than ever in today’s world of chaos. We all need to be extra cautious when it comes to our home security. Luckily, the availability of modern gadgets has made this target easier than ever. One obvious way is to purchase and install a CCTV camera system for your home security. However, if you don’t want to spend a hefty sum of amount on a sophisticated CCTV, here’s how you can utilize your old smartphone camera as a CCTV camera.

The gadget requirement for this purpose is very simple. You just need to have more than one smartphones.

STEP #1 – Install a security camera application in the smartphone that you wish to use as a CCTV

To begin with, you need to choose an application from your app store that supports streaming, recording and saving footages, both locally and remotely. An application that also supports motion detector is a plus. Most of these applications are available for free in the android and apple application stores.

For instance, you can choose ‘IP Webcam’ for android phone, while an application called ‘Manything’ works best with apple phones. The basic version of both these applications is free however you might want to unlock some additional features with the low cost purchase of the pro versions.

STEP #2 – Configure the application

The steps may differ for configuration of different applications. Please refer to the help/ guide available with your installed applications for the easy to follow steps. This configuration will require the integration between both your smartphones and you’re done!

STEP #3 – Choose the best spot for your smartphone camera

You’ll need to have a smartphone holder or tripod to keep your phone in an upright position for surveillance, streaming and recording. Choose the best spot for positioning your phone with the view that you wish to see, while you are away from home.

You’ll also need to keep your camera to a place close to the power plug, to keep the battery from dying.

STEP #4 – Voila!

All you need to do now is to turn on the application while you’re away from your home.  Keep an eye back home, with the help of your new installed smartphone CCTV camera!
