Ford releases an innovative trucker hat called the SafeCap

0

Ford celebrated 60 years of truck production in Brazil by inventing the SafeCap. It keeps track of the movement of the head and warns the driver in case they are about to fall asleep.

This is really great news for truck drivers. As you might know, being a truck driver involves driving long distances in order to meet very demanding deadlines.

Overview on the SafeCap

The company worked alongside the Sao Paulo based office of agency GTB to make the SafeCap. Their first step was to conduct research on what head movements occurred when truck driving and what movements happened due to sleep. After this, the company created a software that could differentiate between the both of them. The final step was to fit multiple sensors and a gyroscope on to the trucker cap. This will help the cap wake the driver up using sound, lights and vibrations.

This does seem like a technique to build up the brand image of the company. There is no better way to bring attention to the company than making a product that screams, “Hey look, I care about the population”. This is just a prototype and there is no news on if it will be an actual product. However, Ford is known to turn one off concepts into real life products. One such example is the smart crib that the company unveiled in Spain. After a strong response, the company made it buyable for car buyers. Ford is hoping the same occurs here.

The cap was unveiled at South America’s largest truck show. Once testing is done in Brazil, Oswaldo Ramos, Ford’s head of sales, marketing and service in Brazil says thy will bring it to more countries. As mentioned above, this is just a prototype and the company wants more partners to try to refine the product.
